Who is replacing ABC 7 Eyewitness News anchor Alan Krashesky?

With longtime Chicago anchor Alan Krashesky saying he’ll be retiring Nov. 22, 2022, ABC 7 hasn’t announced who will take his place at the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. anchor desk as of Oct. 6, 2022.

So who are the most likely candidates?

First, it’s important to consider WLS could take the route of splitting up his current shows among two or more anchors.

That said, the most likely choice is probably Rob Elgas, an anchor and reporter the station hired in 2015 from NBC-owned WMAQ.

He currently anchors the 4 p.m. newscast and regularly fills in for Krashesky and other anchors.

Elgas is also a bit younger than Krashesky or his predecessor, Ron Magers, meaning he could stick around longer before retiring. He’s also had years to build up a relationship with ABC 7 viewers so he’d likely be a familiar face for most.

There are some other anchors who the station might consider moving into one or more chairs, but it’s largely stable in the ratings across all parts of the day, so that could mean execs would be hesitant to mix things up.

Of course, it’s always possible the station could decide to hire someone away from another station in town (though non-competes would likely make that a less than smooth transition) or even hire an anchor from another market.
