Costco’s website outage could have cost as much as $11 million
Costco’s website crashed Thanksgiving day — and it may have cost the company as much as $11 million in sales, reports Business Insider.
- According to LoveTheSales.com, the website was down for a whopping 16 and a half hours Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019.
- The same website estimated the site probably makes about $11,000 per minute based on an analysis of the company’s financials and adjustments to account for the busier sales season.
- Costco’s physical warehouses aren’t open on Thanksgiving day, but the site and app is still available for customers to place orders for delivery or pickup.
- Costco ultimately ended up extending its Thanksgiving day online specials into Friday, Nov. 29, but only while supplies last.
- Friday was also Black Friday and Costco’s physical stores were open for business.
- Costco did not return requests for comment from Business Insider.
