Ecommerce giant Shopify disclosed that two of its employees allegedly stole data from more than 100 of the company’s merchants, which could have included those businesses’ customers’ personal information.
According to a blog post the company authored, Shopify blames two “rogue members” of its support team accessed customer transactional records around Sept. 15, 2020.
The two alleged perpetrators were fired by Shopify and are under investigation by the FBI.
Shopify says that while customer names, emails, addresses and order details may have been exposed, they do not believe payment information or more sensitive personal or financial information were accessed.
