PepsiCo’s Aquafina bottled water brand will get a new look in 2020.

The company announced that it will start selling its bottled water in 8 oz. aluminum cans starting in 2020.

The cans will first be rolled out to food service outlets including offices, hospitals, restaurants and colleges.

Pepsi says it may consider offering the cans in retail locations — as well as different sizes — in the future.

The move is part of the company’s self stated goal of making all its packaging recyclable, compostable or biodegradable by 2025.

Although the plastic bottles Aquafina currently comes in are technically recyclable, aluminum is generally considered easier to recycle and research shows it is more likely to be recycled.

PepsiCo also switched its Lifewtr brand to recyclable polyethylene terephthalate bottles and is eliminating all plastic from its Bubly flavored sparkling water products.
