Can you still save 10 cents during Starbucks’ ‘bring your own cup’ suspension?

Despite instituting a temporary ban on its “bring your own cup” program, Starbucks says it will still honor the 10 cent discount it normally gives customers who bring their own beverage container.

The company announced March 4, 2020 that the program would temporarily be suspended due to concerns about coronavirus spread.

Customers will apparently still have to bring in their reusable container and show it to the cashier to get the savings — but employees are being instructed not to touch them or fill them with beverages.

For those customers who prefer using a reusable container to help prevent spills or keep beverages hot or cold, there’s still the option to “dump” the beverage into the preferred container once the sale has been completed, though this will still require using a paper or plastic cup.

Interesting note: Starbucks policy dictates that if a customer brings in a cup bearing a competitors’ name or logo the cashier should honor the 10 cent discount but still provide a paper or plastic cup.
