Pizza Hut trialing plant based protein, round box

Pizza Hut will test Incogmeato “sausage” on a pizza that comes in a new round pizza box.

• The chain is using Kellogg’s new line of plant based protein on the offering, which is called the Garden Specialty Pizza.
• The recipe includes “sausage” along with vegetables.
• However, the product is only available at one Phoenix location.
• In addition, the location is also testing a new round pizza box that the chain reportedly spent two years designing.
• A round pizza box — which is sized just large enough to fit a pizza, uses less packaging since it doesn’t have to account for the “empty” corners around the pizza.
• Pizza boxes have long been the target of environmentalists because although cardboard is typically recyclable, the grease from pizzas often soaks into the fibers rendering it non-recyclable.
