Publix buying surplus food, donating it to Feeding America
Grocery chain Publix has announced it is purchasing surplus dairy and produce from Florida farmers and donate them to Feeding America.
The news comes as food producers, including farmers and dairy farms, are reporting they end up destroying perfectly good product because of surpluses.
In the first week of the effort, the company has donated over 150,000 pounds of food and 43,000 gallons of milk.
Food suppliers have been stuck with surplus products due to demand being down from restaurants and hotels that are closed due to the pandemic.
