Nasdaq.com’s Larry Ramer points out that, as competition heats up and valuations soar, a merger between Shopify and Square could be key in driving profitability and shareholder value to both giants.
Square, which provides a mix of payment processing and transfer hardware and apps along with scheduling, payroll, POS and other services for businesses.
No merger or talks have been confirmed between the companies.
Shopify, meanwhile, offers an ecommerce platform, POS and hardware along with its own payment processing service powered by Stripe.
Square acquired encommerce platform Weebly in April 2018, but it still trails Shopify in both users and, arguably, feature set.Click here to read the full story »
