ABC is making a bold move and shifting its popular “Dancing with the Stars” reality competition series to its parent company’s Disney+ streamer, Deadline was first to report.

The show has been picked up for a 31st and 32nd season, but those will stream exclusively on Disney+, making it the first live show on the streaming platform.

ABC will, in part, fill the Monday 8 to 10 p.m. eastern timeslot “Dancing” has occupied for years, at least in part, with two “Monday Night Football” games as part of sister network ESPN’s new deal with the NFL.

Two games will air on ABC in 2022, with three slated for 2023. The rest will remain on ESPN.

More details about ABC’s plans for remaining Monday nights are expected to be announced in May when the network releases its fall 2022 schedule.

“Dancing” finished last season in the top five unscripted shows in the adults 18-49 demo. It also replaced its longtime host, Tom Bergeron, in 2019, with model and TV personality Tyra Banks. It also dropped co-host Erin Andrews, who previously worked for ESPN.

As of now, Banks appears to be remaining with the show when it moves to Disney+, but ABC did recently announce it would drop executive producer Andrew Llinares.

As a paid subscription service, Disney+ looks to growing its subscriber base to make money and it appears that executives are hoping putting a popular, buzz-worthy brand such as “Dancing” on it could lure in more signups.
