Atlanta forecaster says she got death threats after breaking into Master’s for weather coverage

Atlanta meteorologist Ella Dorsey reported that she received death threats after the station broke into CBS’s coverage of the Master’s for severe weather updates.

• Dorsey, who works for CBS affiliate WGCL, posted a message on Twitter directed at “everyone sending me death threats right now.”
• Her tweet also pointed out that “lives are more important than 5 minutes of golf.”
• She also maintained her belief in the important role TV stations play in alerting the public of severe weather.
• WGCL covered portions of CBS Sports’ coverage of the Masters tournament Sunday, April 14, 2019.
• Although no tornadoes touched down in the Atlanta area, the region was experiencing dangerous weather at the time.
• Most TV stations have specific guidelines that determine what happens when a certain portion of its market’s population or geography is under a severe weather warning or watch — whether it’s running a crawl or breaking into regularly scheduled programming.

To everyone sending me death threats right now: you wouldn’t be saying a damn thing if a tornado was ravaging your home this afternoon. Lives are more important than 5 minutes of golf. I will continue to repeat that if and when we cut into programming to keep people safe.
