CNN’s Chris Cuomo responds to viral video

“Cuomo Prime Time” anchor Chris Cuomo tweeted his first public statement after a video surfaced of him in a heated exchange with a man who confronted him in public.

“Appreciate all the support but – truth is I should be better than the guys baiting me,” Cuomo tweeted. “This happens all the time these days. Often in front of my family. But there is a lesson: no need to add to the ugliness; I should be better than what I oppose.”

The tweet was sent Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019.

CNN’s website labeled the tweet as an “apology,” in a headline, even though the doesn’t necessarily read as a straightforward apology.

Cuomo did not address one of the claims he made on the video — over the use of “Godfather” character Fredo Corleone’s name as an ethnic slur and likening it to the N-word.

He has apologized in the past for comparing the word “fake news” to the N-word.

CNN, for its part, has stood behind Cuomo.
