The Drew Barrymore Show” has gotten a renewal for a Season 3 — though it’s returning in a slightly different and unique format.

The CBS Media Ventures syndicated talk show will be split into two 30-minute blocks, each capable of standing alone.

On CBS-owned stations, the show will air at 9:30 a.m. local time, after a new half hour of local news at 9 a.m.

In markets where CBS owns another station, such as WCBS and WLNY in New York and KCBS and KCAL in Los Angeles, there is the option to carry the second half-hour there.

Other stations can opt to carry both blocks back-to-back as a 60-minute show.

CBS already offers its “Face the Nation” Sunday morning public affairs program as both a 30-minute or 60-minute show.

There’s a break provided at the 30-minute mark when stations that don’t carry the full broadcast can cut away without it being obvious.

Years ago, “Entertainment Tonight” and its now defunct spinoff “The Insider” were offered as separate shows but could be bundled back to back, depending on the station’s schedule.

For some time, the show provided slightly different versions of the show that made the transition between the two shows more seamless for stations that aired them next to each other.

In other markets, the two shows would either air at separate times on the same station or, in some cases, on two different stations, in which case the standalone versions would be used.
