The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has announced it’s adding a category for eSports coverage to the Sports Emmys.
- “Outstanding eSports Coverage” will be the first category to recognize eSports productions as their own entity.
- The first honor in this category will be given out in May 2020 at the 41st Sports Emmy Awards ceremony in New York.
- Adding the category marks the rising trend in both eSports and broadcast productions surrounding them.
- It’s important to note that the Sports Emmys are distinct from the national Emmy category
