The House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection of the U.S. Capitol has tapped a former ABC News executive to help advise it on presenting a trove of multimedia during its primetime hearing Thursday, June 9, 2022.

James Goldston, former president of ABC News, is working with the committee as an “unannounced adviser,” Axios was first to report. Goldston also worked on “Good Morning America” and “Nightline” while with the network.

Axios sources say Goldston’s goal is to create a “blockbuster investigative special,” writes the site’s Mike Allen.

The hearing is expected to blend both pre-produced segments with live testimony and will also rely heavily on imagery and video to help tell the story of what happened on Capitol Hill that day.

The high-profile nature of the event — which is expected to be widely carried across U.S. networks — means this hearing is a key way for the committee, which includes seven Democrats and two moderate Republicans, to make its case before the American people in a way that will break through the cluttered media world.

It is not immediately clear if Goldston is being paid for his services. The committee declined to comment to multiple news outlets about Goldston’s reported involvement.
