ABC News’ “Good Morning America” set a model house on fire live on its show Nov. 2, 2021.
The “Live on GMA” segment (that happened early in November sweeps) included two houses built in cooperation with the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety as a way to demonstrate how different materials can be more or less vulnerable to wildfires.
The house on the right of the screen was built using traditional lumber and roofing materials, while concrete fiberboard, steel, aluminum and cement blocks around the base.
For the segment, the crew purposefully set the house on the right on fire and let in burn throughout the segment — nearly 30 minutes.
The house on the right wasn’t directly set on fire — but was used to illustrate how certain building techniques and materials can help prevent embers from one fire — from even miles away — can prevent a structure from catching on fire.
Forecaster Rob Marciano was on hand to report live and detail the progress.
