The National Association of Hispanic Journalists has dropped the Fox network known for carrying Sean Hannity’s show as a sponsor of its part of an annual conference it co-hosts with two other journalism organizations.

The Fox cable channel reportedly paid $50,000 to sponsor this year’s Excellence In Journalism conference, which is a joint venture between NAHJ, the Society of Professional Journalists and the RTDNA.

The conference will take place Sept. 5 to 7 in San Antonio, Texas.

NAHJ said it opted to drop the Fox cable channel as a sponsor after one of its radio hosts, Todd Starnes, made disparaging remarks about Latinos.

NAHJ will return its $16,666 portion of the sponsorship fee Fox paid and called on SPJ and RTDNA to drop the Fox cable channel as well.

Both declined, instead issuing a statement that they wished to give Fox the opportunity for “a larger platform to discuss what they label as a ‘teachable moment.'”

As of Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, the Fox network logo remains on the conference website, but the logo of the cable network in question does not, though it’s not clear if it ever did.

NAHJ emphasized that its move does not reflect upon NAHJ members working at the cable network.
