An MSNBC segment producer has penned an anonymous column on the Deadline website calling for the closure of NBC headquarters at 30 Rockefeller Plaza amid growing coronavirus cases.
The column was published by Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. under the condition of anonymity.
The person asked only to be identified as a “senior segment producer of a primetime show on MSNBC.”
The writer notes that CBS made the smart move to close its New York Broadcast Center and spread out operations across multiple facilities — something NBC hasn’t done yet, though it is allowing many staffers to work remotely from home.
That said, the unnamed producer acknowledges the complexity of making the call to close 30 Rock.
“The decision is simple, the execution is complicated,” the producer writes.
The column also points out that NBC recorded the first known death of a broadcast employee from a coronavirus infection — a technician named Larry Edgeworth.
Meanwhile, new cases of the virus continue to pop up within NBC, according to the employee.
