NBC News Asia correspondent Janis Mackey Frayer has been reporting from the frontlines of some of the hottest coronavirus zones in Asia.
That meant she had to be separated from her son for 49 days — including a 14 day quarantine.
Her husband was on hand to capture the emotional moment she was reunited with her son after being released from quarantine in Beijing, China.
She posted the video on Twitter and it went viral — with NBC News airing segments about it on both “NBC Nightly News” April 1, 2020 and the following morning on “Today.”
With work travel, restrictions and quarantine in #China, our family was apart for 49 days. And yes, every one of them was hard — the worry, the decisions, the failed plans, isolation. Our little guy has been brave and resilient… and this was easily the best. hug. ever. @NBCNews pic.twitter.com/UhxqYvFSl7

She previously tweeted a video clip of her waving to her family from her quarantine location while she was on the phone with them.
One week of quarantine down, one to go. For me, it’s coming full circle to be back in #China after 2 months of #coronavirus work in #Wuhan, #Japan & the UK. It’s not easy being apart then isolated from family, so what a lift to get a phone call to go to the window ❤️ @NBCNews pic.twitter.com/4uTLp01Ihh
