Touted as generating powerhouse ratings growth in the weeks following Donald Trump’s defeat to Joe Biden, far right network Newsmax apparently hasn’t been able to keep the momentum going.

Since Nov. 16, 2020, the network has lost more than 55% of its viewership, according to Nielsen Media Research. It has also shed over 60% of its total day and primetime viewership in the key demo of adults ages 25 to 54.

Back in the week following the 2020 election, Newsmax had just under 400,000 total viewers on average with 93,000 in the demo that most advertisers seek.

However, as of March 8, 2021, it’s down to an average of 172,000 total and 29,000 in the demo. Early data for more recent weeks show dips to around 147,000 total and 17,000 in the demo.

Despite the downturn, the network is still regularly doubling its typical ratings from prior to the November 2020 election.

The initial boost in ratings was at least partially contributed to viewers abandoning Fox’s conservative cable channel, which is viewed by some as not being as far right as they’d like.
