After capping the first two multi-night debates at 20 participants, the Democratic National Committee has set stricter criteria for the Sept. 12 and 13, 2019 debate — which could result in some logistical headaches for ABC News.
For this outing, candidates must have 130,000 unique donors and register at least 2% support in four polls by Aug. 28.
As of Aug. 2, 2019, only eight candidates have meet those guidelines, according to The New York Times, though there are still several weeks for things to shape up.
If less than 10 candidates ultimately qualify, the debate will shrink to a single night.
ABC and Univision will air the debate from Houston.
