Story on possible sale causes WGN Radio to cut ties with Crain’s
WGN Radio cut ties with Crain’s Chicago Business after the latter published a story suggesting that new owner Nexstar Media Group could sell the radio property.
- The two outlets had a working relationship that included a podcast and having Crain’s reporters popping up on WGN Radio.
- Nexstar acquired WGN Radio as part of its purchase of Tribune’s broadcast assets in 2019.
- While executives have denied any plans to sell WGN Radio, a Crain’s story reported that quoted industry analysts suggesting Nexstar could be “potentially positioning the 95-year-old Chicago station for another sale.”
- The “Crain’s Daily Gist” podcast will be shuttered, though anchor Amy Guth will continue to contribute to it, reports Robert Feder.
- Meanwhile, Feder’s sources say that a WGN microphone in the Crain’s newsroom has been removed.
