CNN’s town hall with Sen. Amy Klobuchar dipped in the ratings.

  • CNN has become known for producing town halls with presidential hopefuls, potential candidates as well as ones focused on a specific topic.
  • According the ratings, the Klobuchar town hall averaged 1.1 million viewers.
  • Don Lemon hosted the town hall.
  • In the key adult 25-54 demo, CNN’s town hall had only 294,000 viewers.
  • MSNBC, which was running its normal slate of primetime programming, garnered 2.4 million total viewers and 441,000 in the demo during the same time period.
  • Klobuchar’s event did get slightly more viewers that the previous week’s event with potential candidate Howard Schultz, which drew 1.04 million.
  • However, Schultz’s event still beat Klobuchar’s in the demo, with 341,000.
  • By comparision the town hall CNN hosted with Kamala Harris hit 1.95 million viewers and 712,000 in the demo.
  • Those ratings are about 75 percent better than the network normally does in the 10 p.m. eastern hour the town hall aired in.
  • It’s worth noting, however, that comparing one town hall’s ratings to another isn’t necessarily comparing apples to apples — since they all have different lead-ins, hosts, guests, air times and competing programming.
