Traffic reporter gets $215K in age discrimination suit

A former Dallas–Ft. Worth traffic reporter will receive a $215,000 from CBS owned KTVT over an age discrimination lawsuit.

Tammy Dombeck Campbell had been working as a freelance traffic reporter for the station in 2014 when the station’s full time reporter quit.

Campbell, who was 42 at the time, applied for the job but it went to a 24 year old former NFL cheerleader.

The job listing included having at least five years of professional broadcasting experience as a qualification as well as knowledge of the Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area traffic beat.

Campbell had previously been passed over for the full time traffic position just a few months earlier when the station offered the job to a 27 year old.

Campbell’s attorneys say that candidate, who never started at the station, lacked the listed broadcasting experience and local knowledge. The next candidate, the 24 year old, would eventually start at the station.

Prior to joining KTVT, Campbell spent 12 years at the market’s NBC owned station, KXAS, reporting on traffic. She was known as the “Gridlock Buster” there by viewers.

The suit targets the station of violating the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967.
