Trump inaccurately claimed Dorian could hit Alabama — three times
Donald Trump tweeted Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, that Hurricane Dorian could hit Alabama.
- That first tweet came at 10:51 a.m. eastern.
- Multiple local forecasters immediately responded saying that wasn’t the case.
- A local resident called out one of the forecasters for having a political agenda, something he denied.
- At 11:11 a.m. the National Weather Service’s office in Birmingham tweeted confirmation that the store would not impact Alabama.
- At 11:14 a.m. began speaking to reporter outside the White House and repeated the claim about Alabama.
- He repeated the statement at a 12:31 p.m. FEMA briefing.
- ABC’s Jonathon Karl reported on “World News Tonight” Monday, Sept. 3, 2019 about Trump’s repeated erroneous statements.
- Trump apparently saw the report and fired back at Karl on Twitter — though he initially misspelled his name, which resulted in the wrong person getting tagged.
- The tweet was deleted and reposted with the correct spelling.
- Earlier in the weekend, Trump also claimed he wasn’t aware of any Category 5 hurricanes having taken place — when in fact three have taken place during his time in office.
