Starbucks says it will add a plant based breakfast sandwich to its U.S. and Canadian menu in 2020, according to an announcement on its recent earnings call.

The chain hasn’t announced who will supply its plant based protein.

The move comes as rival Dunkin’ partnered with Beyond Meat in 2019 to add a plant based protein sausage sandwich its national menu in the U.S.

Starbucks recently rolled plant based dairy alternatives on a wider basis, including new drinks that use almond, coconut and oat milk as bases.

Meanwhile, Canadian chain Tim Hortons announced in early 2020 that it will pull Beyond Meat offerings from its menu nationwide after it disappeared from most locations the previous year.
