As the long awaited potential merger of Viacom and CBS continues to gain traction, experts say that could just be the start of acquisitions by the newly formed company.

Shari Redstone, the chair of National Amusements, has long wanted to a merger between the two.

National Amusements holds the controlling stake in both companies.

Although she’s legally restricted from pushing for a merger personally, the boards of CBS and Viacom are not — and seem to be keen on the idea.

Should a merger go through, the company could look to match some of its other media giants — such as the new Disney-21st Century Fox — by making acquisitions in film, cable and more.
