NBCUniversal in ‘advanced talks’ to buy Vudu from Walmart
NBCUniversal is reportedly in “advanced talks” to acquire Walmart’s Vudu streaming service as of February 2020.
Though nothing is finalized, if a deal is reached, Vudu could become part of Peacock, the company’s streaming service that’s set for a July 2020 debut.
Vudu has an advertising supported free tier similar to what NBC plans for Peacock.
Comcast, NBCU’s parent company, also owns a majority stake in movie ticket company Fandango and reports say execs also see opportunities for synergy there.
Fandango, meanwhile, also operated FandangoNow, a video on demand service.
