Ocasio-Cortez says news outlets sensationalized her Colbert appearance

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is taking issue with how online, television and print publications are characterizing her appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

• While appearing on the show, Colbert asked her “On a scale of zero to some, how many fucks do you give?”
• Ocasio-Cortez’s response was “I think it’s, um …. zero.”
• However, many articles and coverage about the event with headlines such as “Ocasio-Cortez: I give ‘zero’ f-cks about pushback from other Democrats.”

• Ocasio-Cortez is pointing out that she didn’t actually use profanity — Colbert did — but accuses the media using, as she puts it, “brown women cursing” clickbait.
• She’s also taking issue with how many stories of the incident are accompanied with what she calls an “angry” photo of her.
• Most outlets did only directly attribute the word “zero” to her in headlines, but, as a matter of semantics, many did either directly or indirectly imply that she uttered the profanity.
