Shortly before 11 a.m. eastern time Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, CBS News was in a live special report featuring Donald Trump’s speech from the Rose Garden announcing his intent to declare a “national emergency” to fund a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.
- Right around when Trump’s rather rambling and disjointed speech began mentioning preventing “human traffickers pouring across the border,” CBS cut Trump’s audio in favor of John Dickerson, who was anchoring the special report.
- After a brief summary, Dickerson reminded viewers that extended coverage would be available on their local CBS station or CBSN, the network’s streaming news service.
- He then announced the network would return to “local programming” — which for viewers in the eastern and central time zone was “The Price is Right.”
