After 13 former White House press secretaries, foreign service and military officials signed an open letter calling for the return of daily White House press briefings, the current White House press secretary had a response.
- “This is groupthink at its finest. The press has unprecedented access to (Trump), yet they continue to complain because they can’t grandstand on TV,” Grisham told Axios. “They’re not looking for information, they’re looking for a moment. This President is unorthodox in everything he’s done. He’s rewritten the rules of politics. His press secretary and everyone else in the administration is reflective of that.”
- Grisham, who took over from Sarah Sanders in July 2019, hasn’t held a single press conference since she started.
- Before that, Sanders hadn’t appeared at a daily press briefing since March.
- Instead, Grisham’s team appears to be focusing on setting up Trump with conservative outlets such as Fox’s commentary channel and One America Network.
