CBS News correspondent dies from COVID-19
A CBS News correspondent has died from COVID-19.
Maria Mercader, 54, who had been with CBS for almost three decades, died recently in New York after becoming infected with coronavirus.
Mercader had been on medical leave since late February on an unrelated issue.
Mercader had multiple bouts with cancer and related illnesses for more than 20 years, though CBS did not clarify if this was why she was on leave.
She was active in both the Asian American Journalists Association, the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association and the National Association of Black Journalists.
