During the Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, edition of “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd began introducing the members of a panel, but stumbled introducing former “NBC Nightly News” anchor Tom Brokaw, who took the slip-up in stride.
- Todd initially introduced Brokaw as “special correspondent” for NBC News, but then stumbled over what Brokaw’s exact title is.
- Brokaw took the mistake in stride, joking that he didn’t want to be an “isn’t that special” special correspondent.
- Brokaw also joked that the “senior” title was perhaps a better fit.
- At the end, Todd joked that he just calls Brokaw’s the “Big Poobah,” referencing a character from “The Flintstones.”
- NBC’s official media site lists Brokaw’s title as “Special Correspondent.”
- Brokaw, who retired from “NBC Nightly News” in 2004, has, like many retired network news personalities, remained a correspondent with the network — a sort of “emeritus” role that can include appearances during special coverage or panels.
