In a rare show of unity, CNN president Jeff Zucker praised Fox anchor Shepard Smith.
- Smith, who anchors “Shepard Smith Reporting,” was being honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award at the same event.
- Smith previously anchored “The Fox Report” — the network’s signature evening broadcast, until 2013.
- At the time, Smith signed a new deal with Fox that made him managing editor of the network’s breaking news coverage.
- Fox also shifted to anchoring the 3 p.m. eastern block at the time.
- Smith anchors from Studio D, dubbed the “Fox News Deck,” a space that was constructed for him in 2013.
In a rare moment of cable news unity, Jeff Zucker tells the crowd: "I especially want to honor Shep, who I admire greatly." #RTDNFirst
