During “CNN Newsroom” May 12, 2020, the network managed to “relocate” the state of Missouri to Michigan.
The error appeared during the 1 p.m. eastern hour in a map showing coronavirus positive tests broken down by states with the highest and lowest percentage of cases.
In the map, the distinctive upper and lower peninsula of Michigan and shaded red and labeled as “Missouri.”
The “real” Missouri, meanwhile, was not colored or labeled.
The postal abbreviation of “MI” is assigned to Michigan but is frequently confused with both Missouri and Mississippi (which are MO and MS, respectively).
Thankfully, CNN managed to label Mississippi correctly.
