CNN’s attempt to broadcast an uplifting concert was cut short when the weather had other plans.
Performer Barry Manilow was on stage in Central Park when a public address announcement cut in and requested that audience members proceed to the exist and take shelter as a storm triggered by Hurricane Henri approached the city.
“We Love NYC: The Homecoming Concert” started as planned on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, with Anderson Cooper as host.
The crowd was estimated at 60,000 — with all attendees required to show proof of vaccination.
When the concert was essentially canceled part way through, Cooper was left to fill air time, first turning to CNN’s weather center for updates on the storm.
