Deadspin’s entire editorial team is gone
The last of Deadspin editorial staffers have called it quits.
- The move comes after a leaked memo showed that the site’s new owners, G/O Media, called for the site to “stick to sports.”
- After that, the site’s interim editor in chief was axed.
- Then came a mass of resignations from other staffers.
- On Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, top writer Dave McKenna quit too.
- All told, about 20 writers and editors have quit since the memo leaked, which is essentially everyone who worked on the site’s content.
- In a sarcastic post, senior editor Diana Moskovitz site “appointed” McKenna editor in chief Friday since he was the “last editor left with access to our work systems.”
- In the post, she pointed out that McKenna would only the “hold” the post for one day — since, according to the same post, he quit Friday too.
- Moskovitz gave her two weeks notice Oct. 29.
- As of Sautrday morning, the latest entry (at least that made it into the site’s RSS feed) was published Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m. eastern time and was entitled “The Normal Person’s Guide To Training For A Marathon.”
