Is MSNBC planning a weekend shakeup?

MSNBC appears to be poised to shake up its weekend programming schedule.
- Since October, the network has hired three new anchors: Alicia Menendez, NPR’s Joshua Johnson and KPHO’s Lindsey Reiser.
- Two of those three anchors are, according to statements made at their hires, slated to host weekend shows.
- Johnson’s role at MSNBC was not specified.
- Meanwhile, the network hinted that “lineup details” will be announced soon.
- MSNBC currently runs a slate of “MSNBC Live” rolling news coverage as well as standalone shows on weekends.
- Some of these shows, such as “Kasie DC,” only air on one day, while others, such as “AM Joy,” “Weekends with Alex Witt” and “Up with David Gura” run both.
- The rest of the weekend schedule is currently filled out with repeats of NBC’s “Meet the Press” and other MSNBC shows as well as documentaries.
- It’s not immediately clear where MSNBC will put Menendez or Reiser, or if it is even sticking with its original plan to assign them to weekends.
- If the pair are heading to weekends, this could mean one or both will take over blocks of “MSNBC Live” or replace a block of current programming with a separately branded show.
