Judge denies Smollett’s request to toss lawsuit
A judge has denied former “Empire” star Jussie Smollett’s request to have a lawsuit brought by the City of Chicago seeking to recover the costs of the investigation after he claimed he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack tossed out.
- The city is seeking $130,000 from Smollett that it says are connected to the cost of investigating an attack on Smollett that the CPD believes was staged.
- In the legal notion, Smollett’s lawyer says he should have to pay because he had now way of knowing how much the investigation would cost.
- The paperwork continues to deny any wrongdoing on Smollett’s part.
- Although, in a surprise move, criminal charges for allegedly faking the incident were dropped against Smollett, another judge has appointed a special prosecutor to investigate that decision.
