NBC Nightly News” anchor Lester Holt traveled to Lviv, Ukraine, and began broadcasting from there on Sunday, March 6, 2022.

Holt normally doesn’t anchor Sundays, and he was in New York as recently as Friday, March 4, 2022, so likely spent much of the weekend traveling.

Saturday anchor Jose-Diaz Balart anchored the March 5, 2022 edition from New York, while Sunday anchor Kate Snow was displaced by Holt’s weekend appearance.

Holt joins “ABC World News Tonight” anchor David Muir who began anchoring and reporting from the Ukraine-Poland border March 3, 2022, making him the first of the big three network anchors on the ground.

All three networks have significant presence on the ground in the region, however.

During the Sunday broadcast, Holt documented his team’s efforts to get into Ukraine via Poland, including a stop at a checkpoint where they turned off their cameras out of caution. The region where Holt is in is farther from the key attack areas targeted by Russia.
