Most of those Amazon rainforest fire photos aren’t what they seem

After social media lit up with photos and outrage about fires in the Amazon rainforest last week — including anger at the news media for not covering the story — it turns out a lot of the photos accompanying those posts aren’t exactly what them appear to be.
While there are in fact fires blazing in the Amazon and it is certainly a concerning problem, most of these photos aren’t actually of any of those.
Many of the photos were taken from other parts of the world or in the past — or a combination of both.
One of these photos even depicts a forest fire with what appears to be deer standing in front of it — and deer aren’t native to South America.
Mother Jones, meanwhile, has tracked down some photos that actually have been taken recently in the Amazon.
