As was widely expected, former CNN anchor Ana Cabrera and NBC News announced that she would be joining MSNBC as a morning anchor.

Cabrera will begin anchoring “Ana Cabrera Reports” at 10 a.m. eastern on April 10, 2023, according to the network. She’s taking over the timeslot vacated by Stephanie Ruhle, who moved to the “The 11th Hour” at 11 p.m. eastern in 2022. Since them a rotating cast has held down the anchor desk.

Cabrera’s show will air immediately after “Morning Joe.”

“Ana Cabrera Reports” is the individualized name that’s used in addition to the blanket name of “MSNBC Reports” for much of the network’s dayside news coverage.

At CNN, she anchored an hour of “CNN Newsroom” at 1 p.m. eastern. She left CNN in 2022 and the network later announced it would be replacing weekday hours of “CNN Newsroom” with two three-hour blocks of news each with a separate team of three anchors.

It’s not immediately clear if Cabrera was ever considered as anchor for a block of “CNN News Central,” though it like would have required her to switch to mornings because the afternoon block of the show, which debuts April 17, 2023, is scheduled to be anchored from Washington, D.C. It’s possible she may have been told her services were no longer required or could not reach a deal with CNN management to be part of the new venture, triggering her departure, though there has been no comment on those negotiations, if any.

Cabrera’s show appears to be the last puzzle piece in filling in MSNBC’s dayside schedule with permanent anchors during each hour — at least until something changes. MSNBC now has named anchors for each of its “MSNBC Reports” programs, including veteran anchor Chris Jansing getting two hours in the afternoon.
