Now in standard definition: YouTube makes big change during coronavirus outbreak

YouTube will start playing its video clips in standard definition by default to help ease the surge of demand on its servers and network amid the coronavirus crisis.
Users will still be able to switch to high definition quality, where available, on a per video basis once the clip starts playing.
YouTube expects the change to remain for at least 30 days.
The move follows a similar move YouTube and Netflix made in Europe.
