Glenn Weiss, who won an Emmy for directing the 2018 Tony Awards, is being called out for “hypocrisy” over his on air marriage proposal to girlfriend Jan Svendsen during the telecast of the Primetime Emmy Awards Monday, Sept. 17, 2018.
- Weiss, who has directed the Tonys for years for CBS, is reportedly known for being very strict about keeping Tony acceptance speeches to 45 seconds.
- His acceptance speech-turned-proposal, however, clocked in at almost three minutes.
- Broadway actors and insiders — as well as the public — have been speaking out about the hypocrisy of his gobbling up time when he himself reportedly gets outraged when winners go over their allotted time.
- Social media is also debating whether the proposal was sweet or tacky.
