The Weather Channel, one of the most noticeable gaps in Google’s YouTube TV’s streaming television platform is finally coming to the service later in 2022.

Reports indicated that Byron Allen’s media group, which owns The Weather Channel along with a slate of other digital networks, will bring the weather network and a may bring some of those offerings to the service as well.

An exact timeframe for launch isn’t clear, nor is it clear if YouTube TV will raise prices.

It’s also not immediately clear if YouTube TV viewers will get the national generic feed of the service or received localized versions of the channel based on geography that are typically inserted at the head end of cable and satellite providers, though the technology to do so certainly exists.

The deal is said to be part of a larger deal for Allen Group to become Google Cloud Platform customers, which is run by a different division of the company. Other potential partnerships could include tighter integrations with mobile apps and the Android phones and tablets the company produces or co-brands.

While YouTube TV typically offers a large selection of local weather information through local newscasts in most markets, not carrying The Weather Channel or one of its similar competitors has been a bit of glaring omission.
