Donald Trump fired back at the “Saturday Night Live” cold open Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019 that poked fun at Trump’s press conference declaring a “national emergency” to fund a border wall.
- The tweet was posted the morning after the “SNL” episode aired.
- In it, Trump called the show “tired” and labeled NBC “fake news.”
- “Question is, how do the Networks get away with these total Republican hit jobs without retribution? Likewise for many other shows? Very unfair and should be looked into. This is the real Collusion!” read the rest of the tweet.
- Meanwhile, Alec Baldwin, who portrays Trump on “SNL,” has expressed concern that Trump’s tweet could threaten his personal safety.
- Trump has also suggested that NBC’s broadcasting licenses should be revoked, though never provided any follow up or detail on that.
- Trump also apparently has not been made aware of the fact that “SNL” is widely considered to be satire and therefore has fairly strong legal backing to produce segments poking fun at whoever it likes, even if the actions depicted aren’t real or contain inaccuracies.
- In regard to the “hit jobs” and “collusion,” Trump also conveniently overlooked reports that he and various Fox hosts speak regularly — as well as the fact his press secretary, Sarah Sanders, is the daughter of a Fox commentator and his current communications director Bill Shine is a former Fox exec.
Nothing funny about tired Saturday Night Live on Fake News NBC! Question is, how do the Networks get away with these total Republican hit jobs without retribution? Likewise for many other shows? Very unfair and should be looked into. This is the real Collusion!
