NBC News Now is updating the anchor lineup for its afternoon block of news.

NBC News Daily” broadcasts in two segments; one from noon to 2 p.m. eastern featuring Morgan Radford and Vicky Nguyen and another from 2 to 4 p.m. eastern with Kate Snow.

Aaron Gilchrist originally co-anchored with Snow but left earlier in 2023. NBC News has been filing the chair next to Snow with rotating co-anchors but has now settled on Zinhle Essamuah.

Essamuah also serves as a correspondent for NBC with an emphasis on justice, culture and poverty.

She came to NBC from NowThis News (an outlet unrelated to the NBC News Now brand) in 2021. There she helped launch the service’s Washington, D.C. bureau and anchored its flagship evening news broadcast as well as serving in various producing roles.

All four hours of “NBC News Daily” are carried on the FAST streamer NBC News Now.

The NBC broadcast network carries an hour of the show, typically dipping into the feed live midday. NBC stations have the option of providing local news and weather cut-ins as well.

The NBC broadcast of “Daily” replaced “Days of Our Lives” in most markets, NBC’s longtime soap opera that was moved to NBCUniversal’s paid subscription streamer Peacock in September 2022.

Moving “Days of Our Lives” to streaming was a bold move by NBC.

It was largely seen as a way to help the network capitalize on additional ad revenue stemming from the 2022 midterm elections.

“Daily” typically registers lower ratings than “Days” did, but it is also likely significantly less expensive to produce (despite the comparatively less expensive cost of soaps compared to a primetime drama).

Despite the lower ratings, the show has managed to grow and delivery consistent viewership. No changes to the show have been announced as of July 25, 2023, and NBC could use the show to boost ad revenue ahead of the 2024 election.

NBC said at the time that “Days” had a solid digital following, though some found it odd that the network would move a show often thought of as attracting older viewers to streaming.

“Days” is one of the longest-running shows in history, having launched in 1965 and racking up over 14,000 episodes when it moved to Peacock.

Production of “Days” had been paused in April 2021 as Sony and NBC began negotiating over the show’s future. In May 2021, the show was renewed through September 2023.

On March 15, 2023, Peacock renewed the show for two additional seasons, extending its run through its 60th anniversary.

Snow has been with NBC since 2010. She is also anchor of the Sunday edition of “NBC Nightly News.”
