Amazon’s 30 cents a gallon ‘Mrs. Maisel’ gas promotion goes awry

Amazon’s 1950s pricing publicity stunt for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” backfired on a bit on the company.
In Santa Monica, police made Amazon stop its discounted gas promotion because it was causing long lines at gas stations and tying up traffic on surrounding streets.
Amazon teamed up with gas stations to offer the “marvelous price” of 30 cents a gallon — the approximate cost of gas in 1959, which is when the show is set.
Other offers during the Aug. 15 promotion included discounts on food, movie tickets and hotel stays.
