Iconic Chicago forecaster Tom Skilling will undergo gastric bypass surgery.
Skilling announced the upcoming procedure on Facebook Feb. 29, 2020.
In the post, he says he will be off the air to recover from the surgery until later in March or April.
Skilling, who is 68, has been at WGN since 1978 after working at WITI in Milwaukee. He is reportedly one of the highest paid weather forecasters in the United States.
In the post announcing his absence, Skilling notes he’s been working toward gastric bypass as part of a weight loss and control regimen for years.
