WGN in Chicago has named a replacement for its primary evening co-anchor position.

Ray Cortopassi, who currently anchors at WXIN Fox 59 in Indianapolis, has been hired at the Chicago independent station to replace Joe Donlon.

Donlon is headed down the hall to anchor WGN America’s “News Nation” starting in Sept. 1, 2020.

Donlon, in turn, replaced longtime anchor Mark Suppelsa, who retired from the station in 2017.

WXIN, WGN and WGN America are all owned by Nexstar Media Group as a result of its purchase of Tribune Media.

WGN is a local, independent station that produces over 72 hours of local news.

WGN America, meanwhile, is a cable network available across the country that is slated to carry the three hour “News Nation” starting Sept. 1.

“News Nation” will join WGN’s local news operations in Chicago.
