After announcing plans to cut 90 minutes of programming from its London facility, CNN is now cancelling “News Stream” — a daily show produced from its Hong Kong newsroom.
- The moves mean that no regularly scheduled programming will be produced from Hong Kong once the show stops airing.
- “News Stream” and the London based programming aired on CNN International.
- After becoming part of AT&T, execs have embarked on a series of cost cutting moves.
- Select staffers at the flagship U.S. channel were offered buyouts earlier this year.
- WarnerMedia, meanwhile, moved into a new headquarters in Hudson Yards earlier this year.
- Plans for the move were put into place before AT&T bought Time Warner and renamed it WarnerMedia.
NEW: In what some insiders calling part of a pivot away from Asia, CNN is axing News Stream – the daily news show broadcast from Hong Kong.
It means that from August, CNN Hong Kong will contribute no scheduled programming to CNN International’s broadcast rotation.
